Folklorez began with a love for clay and a belief that making things with our hands can bring a little more joy into our everyday lives.
Today, Folklorez is a creative community where people come together to make, learn, play, and connect through clay and other hands-on art experiences.
Whether you’re discovering pottery for the first time, coming back to a weekly class, creating with your kids, celebrating with friends, spending time with someone special, or bringing your team together—we want you to leave with more than something you made.
We want you to leave feeling good about having made it.
Why clay?
There is something special about clay.
It slows you down.
It makes you curious.
It asks you to use your hands and trust yourself.
And perhaps most importantly, there is no one right way to make with clay.
A piece doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t even have to look like the example.
We love seeing how differently people interpret the same idea. One person’s simple bowl becomes another person’s sculptural form. A child’s imagination turns into something completely unexpected. A beginner discovers that they can actually make something beautiful with their own hands.
That’s what we love about clay—the possibilities are endless, and every piece carries a little bit of the person who made it.
More than Pottery
At Folklorez, clay is our starting point, but creativity is much bigger than pottery.
Our experiences range from weekly pottery classes and hand-building workshops to wheel experiences, kids and family programs, private gatherings, celebrations, date nights, and corporate team-building. We also explore other art and craft techniques inspired by nature, culture, tradition, and everyday life.
What connects all of these experiences is simple:
We want people to make.
To try something new.
To get their hands messy.
To create without worrying about being perfect.
To spend meaningful time with the people around them.
Because sometimes, when our hands are busy making something, the best conversations happen naturally.
Creating community through making
Some of our favorite moments at Folklorez don’t happen when someone finishes their piece.
They happen around the table.

A team discovering a completely different side of each other outside of work.
A child proudly holding something they imagined and made themselves.
These are the moments we want to create more of.
We believe making together has a beautiful way of bringing people closer.
And that’s why community is such an important part of Folklorez.
Where it all began
Folklorez was founded in 2019 by Diya Kalia, an artist and ceramic designer with more than a decade of experience working with clay.
Diya grew up in Madhya Pradesh, India, surrounded by the colors, patterns, textiles, crafts, and traditions that continue to influence her work today.
She studied Fine Arts in Painting before earning her Master’s degree in Ceramic & Glass Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. During her time at NID, she also worked on craft and design projects with artisan communities across India.
After moving to the United States in 2014, Diya eventually found her way back to the studio—and in 2019, Folklorez was born.
What started as a pottery studio has grown and evolved with the people who have walked through its doors.
Today, Folklorez is not just about making pottery.
It’s about creating a space where creativity feels accessible, community feels natural, and everyone gets a chance to make something with their own hands.
What we believe
Everyone can create. You don’t have to be an artist to make art. Curiosity is enough.
There is beauty in imperfection. The little fingerprints, uneven edges, and unexpected details are often what make handmade things special.
Creativity should feel joyful. Learning matters. Technique matters. But so does having fun.
Making brings people together. Some of the best memories happen while we’re making something side by side.
Your piece should feel like you. We aren’t here to make everyone else’s pottery look the same. We want to help you discover your own ideas and your own way of creating.
Hands-on time matters. There is something deeply satisfying about stepping away from the everyday and spending time making something real, tangible, and entirely your own.
