This hands-on class teaches the three foundational techniques of handbuilt pottery: pinching, coiling, and slab building. You'll leave with finished, glazed pieces that are durable, food-safe, and unmistakably yours.
This course explores the foundations of handbuilt ceramics through both functional and sculptural forms. Each week builds on the last, so you'll learn to make pieces that are both beautiful and well built.
Pinching: Shape small vessels by hand and learn how clay responds to touch.
Coiling: Build taller, organic forms one coil at a time.
Slab building: Roll, cut, and assemble flat clay into vases, mugs, and plates.
Strong construction: Learn joining, scoring, and finishing so your work holds up.
Texture and surface decoration: Experiment with molds, stamps, carving, and surface techniques.
Sculptural approaches: Go beyond functional ware and explore form and expression.
Glazing: Finish your pieces with glaze for durable, food-safe results.
