There's a difference between a mug you bought and a mug you made. One holds coffee. The other holds a Saturday afternoon, a glaze colour you second-guessed and then loved, and the small thrill of drinking out of something your own hands built.

What you'll make

Every mug that leaves this class is different, because every pair of hands is. Over the session you'll:

• Build the body. Roll and shape a clay slab into your mug form — you decide tall and narrow, or wide and hold-it-with-both-hands.

• Make the handle. The part people are most nervous about and most proud of. We'll show you how to pull, shape, and attach it so it feels right in your grip.

• Add your details. Stamps, textures, carved initials, a name, a date. This is where a mug becomes your mug.

• Choose your glaze. Pick from our studio palette. We'll walk you through what each colour actually does in the kiln, since wet glaze rarely looks like fired glaze.

• Leave it with us. Your mug is fired and glazed over the following [4–6 weeks], then it's ready for pickup at the studio where you made it.
